The owners of Cattail Cabins grew up along the lake and built Cattail Cabins to help preserve the beauty of nature for others to enjoy. Part of our philosophy is to make as small a footprint on the environment as possible. We believe we have a nature lovers' paradise. We strive to preserve the ecology of the boreal forest for generations to come! Sherrie is an avid environmentalist who encourages respect for Mother Earth, recycling, the use of bat houses as a natural bug deterrent, and solar lighting. We encourage our seasonal campers to collect rain water in water barrels to water the cultivated plants around their campsites. Our cabins and campsite facilities are cleaned with environmentally sensitive products.

If you are blessed, you have the opportunity to see deer feeding in the meadow or daintily walking across the playground. Frequently, the haunting howls of coyotes' chorus cheerfully echoes in the evening. Would you believe our rabbits and squirrels are wild? They play fearlessly around the campsites. Other wildlife also live here, but they are usually too shy to be seen. Luckily we usually do not have skunks or porcupines this far north! Indeed we are privileged to share this pleasant place with a variety of wild animals. Please remember they are wild, but you will be thrilled with the pictures you take.Birds
Stroll along the lake path or stride along the hiking trails to view the wide variety of bird life. We are on the migratory routes for a number of species. Daily the bald eagles or golden eagles can be seen fishing over the lake or perched in the lofty trees. It is common to see swans, pelicans, Canada geese, and a wide variety of ducks. You truly are blessed if you hear the haunting call of the loons or the hoot of the variety of owls who live at Cattail Cabins. Sometimes we are fortunate to catch a glimpse of the huge pilated woodpecker. Watch the bat boxes at dusk. We have added bat boxes because bats enjoy mosquitoes for munchies! This is paradise for those who love to observe birds in their natural habitat.Northern Lights
One of the many reasons we adore the north is the Northern Lights or Aurora Borealis. During the spring, fall and winter is is a glorious gift of nature to see the northern lights shimmering. The dance of the northern lights is a mystery as old as man.Herbalists and Berry Pickers
So you want to pick your own Labrador tea, or blueberries or low bush cranberries? Spruce gum is one of your favorite flavor memories from childhood? These and many other wild plants are available for the naturalist to enjoy. People come from miles around during the berry picking season. Try wild strawberries in June. In July pick wild raspberries. In August the saskatoons and blueberries are ripe for the picking. Then after the first frost, pick the low bush cranberries. How to contact us
